MEMBER SPOTLIGHT - James marchino
NINE TIMES! James Marchino has visited every state in the USA not just once, not just twice, but NINE times! Along the way he has done some pretty interesting things and set many Travel Goal Getter records.
Bowled in every state 9 times During his travels, he bowled a 3 game series in each state - 9 times! It didn't start out as a bowling tour but to fill in time when he traveled he found a local bowling alley. Bowling quickly became part of his travel regimen. Ran a race in every state 9 times As did bowling, James began by just participating in different races across the country. Then he looked at his list of states and began to fill in the states he had not been to. He continues to do this as he sets new goals for himself. At the end of his last USA tour he needed Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, and Nevada, so he found races in those states and did them. Another running goal was to race on the beach on the coasts of the Atlantic, the Pacific, and the Gulf of Mexico. Yes, he has done that too! Some races took him to famous motor speedways to line up at the start/finish line. He has run at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,Dayton Motor Speedway,California Motor Speedway, Fontana-Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Chicagoland Motor Speedway, Kansas City Motor Speedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway and the Motor Speedway in Bristol, TN. With these amazing records it takes a great deal of record keeping. His log book begins in 1979 and includes documentation of 925 races, 7,500 runs covering 27,300 miles. UNBELIEVABLE! Toured all 50 Capitol Buildings Collected almost 500 college mugs James has an incredible collection of 477 coffee mugs that he picked up when visiting college campuses across the country. He has set a limit for himself of 10 mugs per state so he is getting close to his final collection of 500! In most cases he took a picture by the school sign as part of his 9,000 plus photos that document his travels. Caved in most states James has gone underground in 37 states touring 175 caves. Some of his favorites were: Kartchner Caverns State Park in Benson, AZ, Black Chasm Cave in Volcane, CA, Mammoth Cave National Park, in KY, Carlsbad Caverns National Park in NM, Luray Caverns in VA and Caverns of Sonora in south TX. Attended Church in every state James also attended Mass in every state. According to James, it has been a wonderful experience from attending a small, wood, 100+ year-old cathedral in Juneau, AK to the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. National Hall of Fames Somehow James was also able to visit over 75 national "hall of fames" on his US tours. For example, the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY, Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA, Football Hall of Fame and his favorite one, the International Federation of Fly Fishing Museum, in Livingston, MT. The Travel Goal Getter "Hall of Fame" has James' name written all over it! What's next for James? He is one capital away from touring each state capitol building and having run a race in all 50 state capitols. The last one is Olympia, Washington.
