I came across this excellent traveling with kids packing tip that lets them help when getting ready for a trip. The tip is from "This Week in Travel" podcast which referenced the tip from www.creativewithkids.com. For more tips with traveling with kids, please visit Rick Steves' Traveling with Children page.
If you are a parent of a young child, you have already faced the challenge or will face the challenge soon with kids trying to pack their own suitcase. It usually goes something like this; 1) The child has no direction and you end up packing it yourself while he plays the "how can I make this more difficult game". 2) The child packs by himself and ends up with 20 pairs of underwear and 50 of his favorite books. 3) A combination of the preceding 2. Give yourself some help, eliminate some stress, and put some direction back into the kids hands by using a packing checklist. Use the one below or create your own. The pictures are great to help the non-readers and you can put a number in the box to indicate quantity that they need to pack.
